Where kids explore their love of music

From first chords to full band performances—we meet students where they are and take them where they want to go.

Private Lessons

Where it all begins.

Our private lessons are the foundation of everything we do. Each weekly, 30-minute session is one-on-one with an expert instructor who adapts to your child's learning style, interests, skill level, and pace.

What makes our lessons different:

Your child chooses the music. Want to learn Taylor Swift on ukulele? A Green Day song on guitar? The latest worship anthem on keys? Let's do it! We build technical skills around the songs that excite your student. Motivated kids are fast and dedicated learners.

Band Practice

Where good gets great.

Ready for the next level? Welcome to Band practice! This is where music gets REALLY fun. There's nothing like the energy of playing with other musicians, working together on songs, and feeling that rush of a group performance.

Band Practice is open to all intermediate and above students. This is an amazing opportunity to fine tune their musical abilities in a group setting. Each band will meet for a full hour every week and polish songs together. Over time, they’ll have a substantial set of tunes that are performance ready.

About Band Practice

Band Practice isn't just jamming (though there's plenty of that!). Our instructors coach bands through learning full songs, working on timing and dynamics, arranging parts for different instruments, and preparing for performances. New skills, chords, scales and theory will be shown to each student as we work through the material.

Students learn what it means to be part of a musical team—listening to others, finding their role in the mix, and supporting their bandmates.

Performance Opportunities

Bands have opportunities to perform for family and friends throughout the year. Besides school opportunities (like chapels and talent shows), each band will be given multiple opportunities to play gigs around town. Good Times will book concerts at local venues like SoHo, etc, and the bands will hit the stage! It's optional, low-pressure, and incredibly rewarding.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What age can my child start lessons?

Most students start around age 8, when their hands are big enough and coordination is developed enough to experience early success. We occasionally make exceptions for younger kids if they’re especially motivated and ready. Our goal is always to set students up for a fun, confidence-building experience, not frustration.

  • What gear is required? Where do I find it?

Your child will need their own instrument to practice at home. We’re happy to recommend age-appropriate, beginner-friendly instruments and trusted local or online shops. You don’t need anything fancy, just something comfortable, playable, and reliable to get started.

    View our Gear Recommendations here.

  • How often are lessons offered?

Lessons and band practice are offered once a week. Sometimes there will be 3, 4, or 5 lessons a month depending on the calendar but the flat rate stays the same.

Lessons are 30 minutes and band practice is 1 hour each week.

  • What is Good Times Guitar’s teaching perspective?

At Good Times Guitar, we believe music should be fun. We care deeply about teaching solid fundamentals, but we don’t believe in forcing students down a rigid path. Every child learns differently, and we want them to enjoy the process.

Our goal is to create a positive, encouraging environment where students build confidence, develop real skills, and discover the joy of making music—especially alongside others.

  • What kind of music do you teach?

We teach a wide variety of music, including rock, pop, worship music, and more. While we focus on strong musical fundamentals, we love letting students learn music they’re excited about. When kids enjoy what they’re playing, they stay motivated and grow faster.

  • Can my child do both private lessons and band practice?

Absolutely! In fact, students who do both tend to progress the fastest. Private lessons develop individual technique while band practice builds ensemble skills and keeps motivation high.

Students can join band practice once they’ve built a solid foundation in their instrument.

  • How often should a student practice at home?

Short, consistent practice is best—especially for younger students. Even 10–15 minutes a few times a week can make a big difference. Our teachers help students learn how to practice so it feels doable and encouraging, not overwhelming.

  • What if my child wants to switch instruments?

No problem! Many students explore different instruments over the years. Just let us know and we'll work with you to make the switch.
